In the Polls We Trust

While I was on Zogby.com, I happened to notice that the polls have been updated. The new polls show that the democratic "front runner" Senator Hillary Clinton is losing ground against the republicans. This update is alarming because the polls show that she even loses to Fred Thomson, who in my opinion has been running a sloppy campaign. The last Zogby poll took place back in July and during that time it showed Senator Clinton ahead of each candidate. Correct me if I'm wrong but has she really made any mistakes during the time between August and November?
But wait, that is not the only thing that has me raising a red flag. Ironically, the polls still show that Hillary wins against the other democratic candidates but those candidates like Senator Obama and Edwards, win when put up against the republicans. So what is exactly is going on here? The polls are actually showing me that democrats want Hillary but she has no chance against the republicans and, Americans would rather see Barack Obama and John Edwards over the republicans. Given that information I have come to the conclusion that we can no longer rely on the polls.

Through out my years of school, math has been one of my favorite subjects. If there is one thing I learned from math is notion that numbers do not lie, or at least thats what I was taught to think.

Phil, I think what the polls are reflecting is that two well-known Democrats - Barack Obama and John Edwards - have been ganging up on Hillary and trying desperately to increase her negatives in advance of the Iowa Caucuses. The degree to which they have succeeded among Democrats (a little bit, not very much) is just about the degree to which they have succeeded among the general population. However, since her margin among the general population was always small, the pounding that she has been taking from Edwards and Obama has been sufficient to bring her beneath her Republican opponents, for them moment.

In the General Election campaign, once her brutal Democratic opponents are united behind her, her numbers will increase among Democrats and Independents again, and she will win the General Election.

Let's face it: Nobody except Republicans has been paying very much attention to the Republican race, but EVERYONE has been paying attention to Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. So, the beating she takes now echos more across the electorate.

As soon as Hillary focuses her guns on the chosen Republican candidate, and the press focuses on that candidate, then that candidate will begin to face the public scrutiny that Hillary is facing now, and Hillary will be victorious regardless of who that candidate is.

I think perhaps the Republican with the best change would be that 'Willoughby' (?) guy from Arkansas; No one knows anyone about him, so he can present himself however he wants. But he has an reasonable mein and that's all most of the electorate is really looking for from a Republican, a la "compassionate conservatism."

Hillary would have quite a number of advantages, because that guy's never been out of Arkansas, knows little or nothing about international policy (like George W. Bush when he was elected), will not propose a credible national health care plan . . .

I'd rather see Hillary run against Giuliani or Thompson for the reasons I stated here and here.

conspiracy theory. creators of the polls would much rather a white woman be ahead or look ahead than a black man.

A Study Abroad Link

Study abroad used to be really advantageous economically, but it's becoming more complicated now that the value of the dollar is dropping so precipitously over the last few years.

Weakening US creates sticker shock for Americans abroad.

Still, many essentials cost half as much in Brazil now as they do in the United States, like rent, transportation, clothing, food, entertainment . . .

You can get a nice one-bedroom apartment in Brazil for $150.00 per month. Compare that to paying $700.00 per month in a US city and you're talking about a savings of $6,500 USD per year right there.

Does extensive free publicity at Black blogs for high-quality positive Black movies encourage Hollywood to make more of these movies, while encouraging Black people to spend their money on films that uplift and educate us? Let's try it and see!
